Academics: The Value of a Liberal Arts Education

IU South Bend Anthropology students at a dig site.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) is the heart of IU South Bend. Every undergraduate, regardless of their major, takes a number of courses in the College as they fulfill their general education requirements. This is one of the strengths of an IU South Bend degree.

A liberal arts education prepares students for a lifetime of learning by sharpening their critical thinking skills, teaching them to communicate well, honing their understanding of diversity and globalization, and exposing them broadly to the wealth of human knowledge.
