A Tradition of Teaching Excellence

Indiana University honored Psychology Professor Carolyn Schult with the 2020 President's Award for Distinguished Teaching. Professor Schult became the eighth CLAS professor to receive this prestigious award.

Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS). We want to help you become what you dream about—whether that’s a Spanish teacher or a psychologist, a creative writer or a corrections officer, a chemist or a computer scientist. We also make sure that you gain the skills, such as writing and critical thinking, that employers want and that will enable you to succeed professionally, no matter what field you pursue. We also want you to have a rich and fulfilling life. As a member of our community, you will learn about and celebrate diversity, participate in civic initiatives, and practice sustainability. Through these experiences, you will grow more confident with each semester.

Our faculty have dedicated their careers to you and look forward to serving as your mentors. You will find many of us have backgrounds similar to yours, whether you are first generation, a veteran, a transfer, returning after time away, or entering as a first-time student.  We have been along that same road and want to help you succeed.

So, welcome! Stop in any time. We are here for you.

The CLAS Experience

Our faculty and staff want you to have an enriching experience in and out of the classroom. Want to intern at a local company or study abroad in a cosmopolitan city like London or Berlin? Take a field trip with classmates to Washington, D.C. or work one-on-one on a research project with your professor? You will have the chance to do all this and more. Hear what our students say about the many exciting adventures they had during their CLAS experience.

Benefiting Our Community

Our faculty, staff, and students are devoted to improving our community for all of its members. They “get out the vote” through our American Democracy Project, uncover historical artifacts in our Archeology Summer Field School, and work to improve our environment through the Center for a Sustainable Future. They help publish books of local history with Wolfson Press and conduct cancer research in our science labs.
