The 33 cr. BA in Sustainability Studies is ideal for students aiming for a career in sustainability or for pursuing graduate-level work in the field. BA students learn the fundamentals of systems thinking, gain a broad understanding of natural and human systems, and dive deep into particular sustainability challenges that arise within those systems. They also explore the values that guide sustainability and grow their own commitment to them, while at the same time developing skills in communication and critical thinking that will allow them to contribute in meaningful ways in their jobs and communities. The major culminates in a hands-on practicum or internship to help prepare students for their post-graduate work. BA students work closely with their advisors to shape their program of study around their specific interests and to choose a minor that supports it. Many choose to go on a Study Abroad trip to Costa Rica, Belize, or Iceland to gain a more global perspective on sustainability. And nearly all are active in the campus and wider Michiana community doing service in support of sustainability initiatives.
