Sungkyu Jang

Biography

Dr. Sungkyu Jang is an associate professor of Public Administration in the Department of Political Science at Indiana University South Bend. Dr. Jang holds a BA in Public Administration from the University of Incheon (now Incheon National University) and an MA in Public Administration from Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea. Afterward, he holds a Master of Public Affairs (MPA) with a Public Financial Administration concentration from Indiana University Bloomington and a Ph.D. in Public Administration, with Public Policy specialization (especially public finance area) and an economics minor, from Florida State University. He is a member of the American Society of Public Administration, Midwest Political Science Association, and Pi Alpha Alpha—National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration.

Dr. Jang joined IU South Bend’s Department of Political Science in 2014 and rose through the ranks as a visiting assistant professor, assistant professor, and associate professor. He previously taught Intro, Micro, and Macroeconomics at Atlanta Metropolitan State College and Policy Data Analysis at Georgia State University. Earlier in his career, he served as an officer (first and second lieutenants) in the South Korean Army and worked as a manager and activist with two nonprofit organizations, the Citizens’ Association Against Corruption and Fraud (CACF) and the Korean Federation of Taxpayers (KFT) in South Korea.

Research Interests

Tax Administration, Performance budgeting, Financial management for public organizations, and Accounting for governmental & nonprofit entities.
