Department of Physical Sciences

The Department of Physical Sciences consists of more than a dozen full-time dedicated teachers, scholars, and staff who value the close interaction with students that is common at IU South Bend. Bachelor of Science (B.S.) students specialize with one of three majors, and both Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and B.S. students can engage in research projects of their own design or join ongoing faculty investigations. We offer the following programs:

  • B.A. Physical Sciences
  • B.S. Physical Sciences (major: biochemistry)
  • B.S. Physical Sciences (major: chemistry)
  • B.S. Physical Sciences (major: physics)

These four degrees share 36 credits of the following common foundation:

  • A year of general chemistry (with lab)
  • A year of physics (with lab)
  • A year of calculus
  • A course in digital electronics
  • Freshman seminar
  • Senior seminar

The department also offers three minors:

  • Chemistry
  • Earth and Space Science
  • Physics
