Prof. Julio F Hernando was born and raised in Spain and has been teaching Spanish Language and Literatures since his arrival to IUSB in 2005. Previously to IUSB, he was a lecturer of Spanish at the Universita degli Studi di Firenze in Florence (Italy) and at the University of Michigan. He teaches a wide range of Spanish courses, from Spanish for Beginners to seminars for Spanish majors.
Prof. Hernando holds Licenciado (1989) and Grado (1992) degrees from the Universidad de Salamanca. He completed his graduate work at Washington University in St. Louis (MA 1999, PhD 2005), with a specialization on Medieval Iberian Epic Poetry. He has published research on Spanish Medieval Poetry and Early Renaissance Spanish Theater. His book, Poesia y violencia en el Poema de mio Cid (2010) studies the representations of violence in Spanish Epic Poetry.
