A native of Southern Belgium, Micheline Nilsen is an urban historian studying the impact of evolutionary forces on cities and landscapes. She has a BA and MLA from the University of Pennsylvania and a doctorate in art history from the University of Delaware (2003). She has been assistant professor of art history at Indiana University South Bend since August 2004. Courses taught range from Ancient and Medieval Art to Art Since 1945. Her publications include four books and her current research focuses on allotment gardens in Europe. Her responsibilities have also included administrative appointments as campus-theme coordinator (2005-06) and Visual Arts coordinator (2008-2009), and numerous committee appointments. She is a member of the IU South Bend Center for a Sustainable Future.
