Planning and Scheduling
Plan your schedule
Planning a schedule for an upcoming semester is not as difficult as it might seem. Most of your schedule each term (whether you are going full-time or part-time) should consist of courses that fit requirements for your degree.
Campus Bulletin
The IU South Bend Bulletin for this academic year has information about the current degree requirements for your college and department. You can learn about campus-wide general requirements and access a full list of degrees available at IU South Bend.
Degree Maps
Degree maps, which you can access using this One.IU app, are a tool developed by IU faculty to help you graduate on time. Enter your campus, school, and degree program. Then click on the eye icon under "view" to see an overview of which courses you need to take each semester.
iGPS
The iGPS Plan, which you can access using this One.IU app, will help you plan your courses for future semesters.
"What if" reports
You can generate a "what-if" report using this app on One.IU. You may be considering a program of study and want to see the degree requirements along with any transfer coursework or test credit already approved by the institution. You can use this component to set up and request a simulated or "what-if" advisement report based on what-if programs of study.
Finding Courses
Explore the possibilities! There are three distinct ways to search for IU South Bend course offerings: The Advanced Search, the Departmental Search, and the Schedule of Classes PDF.
Visit the Office of Registrar Schedule of Classes pageSuggested Course Load
The usual full-time course load for entering freshmen is between 12 and 16 credit hours each regular semester (fewer than 12 hours in a fall or spring semester is classified as part-time).
Policies
There are policies and guidelines you should be aware of that affect students. For example:
- Grade Replacements,
- Academic Probation,
- Dismissal,
- Readmission,
- and Applications for Graduation.
There is a more complete list of IU South Bend policies available on the Campus Bulletin website.

Undecided/Exploratory Majors
Having trouble picking a major? You’re not alone. Nationally 50% of students are undecided when entering college. Those students who begin college without a chosen major or subsequently change their major to 'exploratory', should contact the Advising Center at 574-520-4214 or sbadvise@iusb.edu to schedule an appointment.
